Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Género de bacterias al que pertenece M. leprae, descubierto en 1894 por el médico noruego Hansen. Morfológicamente, es muy parecido al bacilo de la tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis); es el agente causal de la lepra.
